Despite a few little hiccups at the beginning, I’ve really enjoyed being home with the kids during these holidays. We’ve spent lots of time with family and friends, achieved a lot around the house and swum until we were prunes, then swum some more.
One of the things I love to do with the boys during holidays is to have a date day. Some one-on-one time doing something they love, and hopefully creating some special memories along the way.
Yesterday was the Wilful One’s turn and boy, did we have an awesome day.
We kicked off with the stage production of Hairy Maclary.
The Wilful One was blown away. Hairy Maclary is his favourite and best when it comes to books and he knows all the stories by heart. Seeing it come to life in front of him was magical in his eyes and I have to say, his joy was a magical thing to watch.
After the show, we dared to take a ride on the wheel of Brisbane. This was no small deal for either of us as we both are petrified of heights, however it was another fabulous experience (once we got over the initial panic).
Next was a stroll around southbank and lunch with some wonderful friends.
Then the pièce de résistance (in my eyes at least) – a little visit to the bald man to sample his fine chocolate!
I’ve never been to Max Brenner before and OMG, it’s probably for the best!
On the way home we had one more exciting task to tick off our list. The Wilful One made his very first purchase with his own pocket money. He saved up and bought himself a Beyblades Battledome. For those of you who don’t know what that is, don’t worry, your not missing much. All you need to know is it’s a big deal if you are 6!
Needless to say, we returned home pooped but very happy. I had such a lovely day with this amazing young man. He asks such astute questions, soaks in everything and is such a joy to spend time with.
I lost count of the amount of times he thanked me through the day because he was enjoying himself so much. I’m so proud of this kid. Proud of his intelligence, his sensitivity, his curiosity, but most of all, I’m proud to be his mum.
Do you have date days with your kids?
